Description
Licorice is native to Eurasia, in central and south-western Asia and the Mediterranean region. Fresh licorice root is bright yellow-brown, this is often chewed fresh or dried as a mouth freshener, tooth cleaner, and for teething in children. The dried root can be chewed as a sweet treat and its extract is black and often used in cough lozenges and candies. The powder can be used in sweets, baked goods, ice cream, soft drinks, and as a sweetener in other herbal teas. Licorice lends a sweet taste to foods. it has flavor-enhancing properties and is heat stable.
